It’s time to remove warning labels on hormone replacement products

For over 20 years, many women have been scared away from hormone replacement therapy (HRT) because of a bold warning label linking it to breast cancer, stroke, and blood clots.


This all began after the 2003 Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) study, which was widely publicised but, as we now know, often misunderstood. The study’s results were applied too generally, without taking into account the type of hormones, the dose, or the timing of treatment — and as a result, countless women were left without a therapy that could have transformed their quality of life.

Today’s science tells a very different story: when prescribed thoughtfully, HRT is not only safe for most women, but can also protect heart health, preserve bone strength, support cognitive function, and improve overall wellbeing.


Removing the fear and confusion is an important step in giving women the confidence and clarity they deserve when making decisions about their health in midlife and beyond.
