As a Functional Medicine doctor, one of the foundational principles I follow is that many chronic health issues begin in the gut.

What you really need to know
Leaky gut syndrome, or increased intestinal permeability, is a condition where the lining of the intestine becomes damaged, allowing toxins, microbes, and undigested food particles to pass into the bloodstream.
This can trigger inflammation and immune reactions that contribute to autoimmune diseases, allergies, fatigue, skin problems, and digestive disorders.
In every initial consultation, my priority is to assess and begin healing the gut. This involves identifying triggers such as poor diet, infections, stress, or medications, and then tailoring a personalised plan to restore the gut lining, reduce inflammation, and rebalance the microbiome.
Healing the gut is not only about relieving digestive symptoms — it is a crucial step towards restoring whole-body health and resilience.
